Course overview

Multivariable calculus for science and engineering students. Covers differential and integral calculus in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $\mathbb{R}^3$ with emphasis on vector calculus.

Main topics

  • Vector algebra and geometry in space
  • Partial derivatives, gradients, optimization with Lagrange multipliers
  • Multiple integrals; change of variables (polar, cylindrical, spherical)
  • Vector fields and line integrals
  • Surface integrals; Green’s, Stokes’, and Gauss’s theorems

Prerequisites

AMS 161 (Applied Calculus II) or equivalent.
